  • Published on January 14, 2021
Under the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) Support Programme in Trinidad and Tobago, one of the main objectives was to initiate the implementation of a National Climate MRV system to aid with tracking progress towards climate targets. Its implementation plan includes relevant legislative framework and definition of institutional roles and responsibilities. In addition, a Knowledge Management System (KMS) forms the central repository for GHG emission sources and mitigation efforts.
The system is designed to track greenhouse gas emissions, mitigation actions undertaken as well as support received and utilised. The system will facilitate tracking of implementation of targets such as the NDC. Routine reporting and verification of information will allow Trinidad and Tobago to meet its obligations under the Paris Agreement. For the period October 1, 2019 to September 30, 2020, the Project has delivered the following outputs: i. Operationalized the National Climate Mitigation Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) through the implementation of a Pilot Project to test the efficacy of the system inclusive of the Knowledge Management System (KMS). The Pilot Project was executed in collaboration with the Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT) during the period November 2019 to January 2020. ii. Development of MRV Tutorial Instructional Videos for users of the KMS; iii. Development of a Financial Investment Plan for the NDC of Trinidad and Tobago. iv. Development of a Certification Programme for Greenhouse Gas Inventorying.
