Sustainable and Social Tourism Summit

Is an event, from professionals to professionals, to discuss the big challenges of tourism in the 21st Century. Organized in Mexico, Summit is a reference for dissemination, updating and exchange of knowledge on themes of sustainability, solidarity and social responsibility in tourism. Organized annually, in 2017 received more than 300 professionals form 14 countries, to share experiencies through conferences, panels, expo and field visits. 2018 edition will take place from 14th to 17th March.
The goal of the Sustainable and Social Tourism Summit is to be the world’s main space for meeting and reference for dissemination, updating and exchange of knowledge on themes of sustainability, solidarity and social responsibility in tourism. Main objectives: - To discuss the main challenges related to Sustainable Tourism all over the World. - To increase the local knowledge about solutions to move towards Sustainable Tourism. - To share success stories local, national and international and learn lessons from them. - To create a Community of professionals that are sharing challenges and solucions in Sustainable Tourism in Mexico and Latin America. The event, anually, is organized by Sustentur and other national and international partners: this Initiative includes: - Conferences and Lectures with trend topical themes. - Expert panel discussions. - Discussions about implemented solutions. - Expo Sustainable Tourism, the only expo specialized in linking Sustainable solutions with Tourism private sector in Mexico. - Field visits & tours to sustainable tourism projects, to learn from the field. After the first edition of Sustainable and Social Tourism Summit, the direct impact was the training and increase of knowledge of more than 300 participants, who work directly in companies of the tourism sector. 250 business appointments between demand and supply during the sustainable tourism expo (containing 40 booths) were also achieved, and business between buyers and sellers was achieved for an estimated US $ 20,000. Indirectly, the Summit was the trigger for the creation of a civil association of Professionals in Sustainable Tourism in Mexico, which hopes to bring together during the first half of 2018 more than 100 members who can continuously share experiences through webinars, specialized meetings and an online library . About 15 alliances have been identified that have emerged between the public, private and social sectors, which begin to work together after having been known at the event, and which begin to consolidate after 6 months of the event. The estimated participants in 2018 are 450, and the Summit will be available online, expecting to doublé the quantity of participants during the days of the Summit, and increasing by 10 in the next months. There are several ways to participate: First, attending the Summit and creating a global community of professionals working for sustainability in the tourism sector. Second, disseminating the results of the summit and implementing locally responsible consumption and production initiatives that are presented at the event. Third, adding their companies as partners of the initiative in the short, medium and long term.
