Project SEARCH

  • Published on July 11, 2014
Project SEARCH (Sensitization, Education and Awareness on Recycling for a Cleaner Habitat) was initiated in 2009 by TERI and Tetra Pak with the intention of creating awareness amongst the school students, teachers and the school community including the principal, school administration and cleaning staff on waste. The idea was fairly simple – teach the target group about waste and link it to their daily lives.
a) To invite students and teachers to comprehend their relationship with the environment and contextualise their existence within the universe and social strata. b) To raise awareness amongst school students on the environment in general and recycling in particular. c) To develop and hone leadership qualities of students and teachers to steer environmental campaigns and movements that are locally needed and globally relevant. d) To set up waste collection centres in schools for the collection and recycling of used Tetra Pak cartons and other dry recyclables. Tetra Pak Ambassador Programme S.T.E.P. (Sensitizing, Training and Empowering Peers) Cut-Clean-Collect Your Cartons. My Classroom. T.R.A.S.H. (Thinking, Reflecting and Acting for a Sustainable Habitat) Festival Go South! Contest Project SEARCH currently impacts 200 schools in Delhi, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and Goa. Recognizing the potential and contribution of Project SEARCH in the field of Education, UNESCO Asia-Pacific Programme of Educational Innovation for Development (APEID) and the National Commission of the People's Republic of China for UNESCO bestowed the prestigious Wenhui Award for Educational Innovation on it in the whole of Asia and Pacific for the year 2012.
