The northern territories of Pakistan are home to the majestic mountain ranges of the Himalayas. Increasing tourism activity over the last few decades has called for more responsible tourism practices, particularly along the most popular trekking routes, to preserve the fragile natural environment.

The campaign aims to (1) To save the natural landscape of Pakistan’s great mountain areas from the irresponsible tourism, (2) To create awareness about the best practices of eco-friendly trekking and (3) to promote the sustainable production and consumption in adventure tourism.

In this campaign, STFP has developed a code of ethics for the trekkers and visitors going to these mountain areas and it is being promoted through pocket sized leaflet in English and national language Urdu to educate the trekkers about the practical steps which they can take to minimize their negative impact on the natural, cultural and economic impacts. This code of ethics explains how the trekkers can reduce the dependency on firewood fuel, disposal of litter in an eco-friendly manner, help in saving wildlife and protecting the landscape beauty, using water wisely and respect local culture and customs.

STFP has also prepared a multimedia presentation which has been shared on its social media page and website to create general awareness to promote the best practices of responsible and eco-friendly trekking tips. For this purpose, the members of STFP on various occasions have also organized talks in the educational institution and youth hiking clubs in various cities.
