The northern territories of Pakistan are home to the majestic mountain ranges of the Himalayas. Increasing tourism activity over the last few decades has called for more responsible tourism practices, particularly along the most popular trekking routes, to preserve the fragile natural environment.
Responding to this challenge, the “Green Trekking” public advocacy campaign was launched by the Sustainable Tourism Foundation Pakistan using social media, awareness seminar and other activities.

Objective was to educate growing number of trekkers about the sustainable use of natural resources. Jan 5th 2017, a leaflet in Urdu language on the Green Trekking code of conduct has been published and shared with the general public and tour operators. Copies of e-brochure has also been shared by email to large number of people in tourism industry.

Objective was to educate trekkers about the best practices of eco-friendly trekking in the mountains of Pakistan. A large number of trekkers have been educated about the negative impact of tourism on the fragile environment of mountains and ideas and best practices have been shared with them about the eco-friendly trekking in the mountains of Pakistan.
Impact and Results
STFP has also prepared a multimedia presentation which has been shared on its website and social media page with over 5,000 followers to help raise awareness on the best practices in responsible and eco-friendly trekking In the mountain areas of Pakistan and now more and more adventure following code of ethics developed by STFP.
