Zurich University of Applied Sciences and the Research Institute for Organic Agriculture (fibl) are offering in interdisciplinary and international education programme with its guiding theme "Designing Food Value Chains to foster the Agenda 2030". The project includes an open online course and an international Summer School to educate young researchers and future decision makers for developing food value chains that foster the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Objective
With the summer school and e-learning programme, we are contributing towards the programmes work areas and priority areas by educating future decision makers, food system planners and researchers for the challenges of a sustainable food systems. The goal of the summer school is to enable our students to identify, develop and evaluate sustainable practices across food systems, focusing on the goals of the Agenda 2030. Through our open e-learning course Information on challenges, solutions and strategies towards a sustainable food system has been made freely available for a greater audience.
Achievements
In 2017 the first round of the Geography of Food Summer School took place in Switzerland. 30 students from 13 countries were participating to learn more about how to design sustainable food value chains. The programme started by an e-learning course which is also freely available for a broader audience. During the actual summer school students worked in teams to develop new solutions for different food value chains in Switzerland, such as milk, beef but also cocoa and coffee. The programme has been highly appreciated by the participants. The importance of an international exchange for widening the understanding of the complexity of Food Systems has been highlighted.

Objective
Training international students to develop innovations in sustainable food value chains to tackle SDG 2 "Zero Hunger"
Achievements
31 international students were selected to participate in the Geography of Food Summer School in "Zero Hunger" at the University of Agricultural Sciences in Bangalore. Lectures and exercises were held on the four topic blocks Food & Nutrition Security, Productivity & Sustainability, Value chains & Markets and Policy, Research & Extension with reference to the Sustainable Development Goal 2 "Zero Hunger". In addition, the students worked mainly in groups on the local value chains of coconuts, millet and milk and were supervised by coaches from FiBL, ZHAW and UAS Bangalore. In various excursions, the study participants were able to gain an impression of the production and processing of the food. The value chains were analysed by the student groups and concrete solutions for more sustainability were developed. Their innovative results were presented on the final day of Study Week.
