Desafio Redução CO2 | CO2 Reduction Challenge

  • Published on January 11, 2018
The CO2 Reduction Challenge (Desafio Redução CO2) is an initiative that engages Brazilian students in promoting conscious consumption as a tool for reducing Greenhouse gases emissions
The initiative aims at sensitizing young students for the importance of conscious consumption in reducing CO2 emissions, engaging them in the development of academicals and practical projects focused at reducing Greenhouse gases emissions The first edition of the initiative (2017) has focused its activities in three Brazilian cities: São Paulo (São Paulo state), Campinas (São Paulo state) and Salvador (Bahia state), involving High School students (Environmental Sciences and Chemistry courses). After participating in workshops and lectures, these students were stimulated to present or create academicals or practical projects that could reduce Greenhouse gases emissions, and were invited to submit these projects for an award, called "Desafio Redução CO2" (CO2 Reduction Challenge). The best projects were awarded with sustainable prizes and certificates of acknowledgment. In the first edition of the initiative (2017), the workshops and lectures have reached directly more than 600 students, with an estimated outreach of 23,000 students. Around 30 submissions were received, from schools in the three cities prioritized by the initiative. The initiative will be replicated at national level in 2018. But it can also be replicated in regional level or international level, in partnership with other organizations.
