BuyZET - Procurement of innovative solutions for zero emission urban delivery of goods and services

  • Published on January 8, 2020
Launched in November 2016, the BuyZET project is a partnership of cities aiming to achieve zero emission urban delivery of goods and services, by (a) Understanding the transportation footprint of their different procurement activities and (b) Developing innovative procurement plans for two key procurement areas that minimise the number, distance and disruptiveness of motorised vehicle trips within the city, and maximise the proportion of these trips made by zero emission vehicles (ZEVs).
The BuyZET project aimed to understand the impact of this spending on transportation flows in EU urban areas, to see how procurement may be used to best support the shift to sustainable mobility: Achieving efficient, regulated and less congested mobility Reducing CO2 emissions Minimising local emissions of particulate matter (PM), nitrous oxide (NOx) and noise Meeting ever stricter public budgets. The overall objective will be the development of a zero emission procurement plans for urban delivery of goods and services for each core city within the consortium – Rotterdam, Oslo and Copenhagen – which will include specific plans for future Public procurement of innovation (PPI) and pre-commercial procurement (PCP) tenders, and will identify opportunities for collaboration with other purchasing bodies at the regional, national or European level. - Boosted demand for zero emissions solutions - Developed procurement plans - Provided replicable solutions - Supported improved quality of life in cities - Produced a series of recommendations - Established cross-border networking
