This 12/12, its time to celebrate SDG12

  • Published on December 12, 2018
Today, the 12th December, one of the partners of the Consumer Information Programme, Cruelty Free International, are celebrating SDG 12 and showcasing how cruelty-free products, ones that have not been tested on animals, can help achieve sustainable consumption and production patterns worldwide.
Cruelty Free International are asking you this 12/12 to celebrate SDG 12 and to let the world’s decision-makers know that cruelty free products belong in the sustainable consumption and production debate, and to proudly share online why you think being cruelty free is important. Sustainable Development Goal 12 is about producing and consuming in a way that protects the environment, as both businesses and consumers act more ethically and responsible to promote sustainable lifestyles Cruelty Free International believes this also means agreeing that using animals to test everyday products and their ingredients – including cosmetics – is cruel, outdated, bad science, unethical and unsustainable. And it means that consumers should try to shop and promote cruelty free products. Increasing the accessibility of information regarding the sustainability of a brand, including whether it has been tested on animals or not, is a key driving factor to help empower consumers and accelerate progress towards achieving SDG 12. Cruelty Free International’s Leaping Bunny certification is one of the road-testers for our Guidelines for Providing Product Sustainability Information and is the world’s leading cruelty free standard, providing consumers with clarity and confidence on which products have not been tested on animals. Back in October, 8.3 million consumer voices signed their petition calling for the UN to act and enforce global cruelty free cosmetics.
