Scaling-up climate action through the circular economy and nature-based solutions

This event will showcase how the integration of circular economy measures and nature-based solutions move the needle towards providing sustainable and effective solutions to climate change.
The discussions will present the opportunity for panellists to showcase recent findings from the International Resource Panel on the potential of resource efficiency for climate mitigation and adaptation, as well as highlight best practices between the EU and Latin America countries.

Launch of the IRP Report “Resource Efficiency and Climate Change: Material Efficiency Strategies for a Low-Carbon Future”

This event, hosted by the Ministry of Environment of Italy, the United Nations Environment Programme and the International Resource Panel, will launch the Summary for Policymakers of the IRP report “Resource Efficiency and Climate Change: Material Efficiency Strategies for a Low-Carbon Future”.
This report will raise awareness about the critical role of material efficiency strategies in climate mitigation plans and Nationally Determined Contributions. This will be the first time that these connections are scientifically drawn at the global level.

Enhancing resource efficiency and reducing material footprint to meet climate commitments

Increasing the efficiency by which our global economy uses resources is one of the most cost-effective and equitable ways of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and meeting climate commitments set out in the Paris Agreement.
With a welcome from the UN Environment Programme’s Executive Director Inger Anderson, this event will demonstrate the contribution of increased resource efficiency to climate change mitigation and the importance of applying resource efficiency policies and strategies to achieve the Paris Agreement goals. It will showcase the scientific evidence, as well as policies and actions taken to decrease the material footprint of the economy which also accelerate and scale up GHG emission reductions.
