Call for proposals: SWITCH Asia and Central Asia II – Promoting Sustainable Consumption and Production

  • Published on February 5, 2019
3rd SWITCH-Asia call for proposals has been launched! The deadline for submitting concept notes is 28 February.

Many developing countries in Asia and Central Asia find themselves in the midst of a rapid industrial transformation (the fastest growing source of new greenhouse gas emissions in the world). There is a need to decouple economic growth from the environmental degradation and natural resources depletion. Several countries are among the most vulnerable to climate change and natural disasters

“SWITCH Asia and Central Asia II – Promoting Sustainable Consumption and Production”  laucned new call for proposals. Proposals from business intermediaries, as well as SME business partners and policy makers at the regional and local level are welcome.

32,700,000 Euro is allotted for South and SouthEast Asia while 13,000,000 Euro is available for Central Asia. Each funding grant ranges from 1-3 million Euro.

Priorities - projects should address at least one or more of these priorities:

  • Priority 1: address sustainable supply chains management with a focus on green trade and on facilitating the integration of MSMEs into supply chains.
  • Priority 2: support sustainable consumption and consumer awareness on SCP.
  • Priority 3: focus on either large industrial parks and large economic zones or clusters of SMEs in order to produce bankable projects.

SWITCH-Asia II Programme

The European Union (EU) made the issue of "sustainable consumption and production" (SCP) already a priority in its 2007 – 2013 and 2014-2020 regional cooperation strategy for Asia. The SWITCH-Asia programme I was launch in 2008 by the European Commission to help induce and support governments, national and local authorities, consumers, businesses, SMEs and supporting associations to SWITCH to a more sustainable paradigm for delivering the necessary transformative change in the transition to sustainable development. The ultimate goal of the SWITCH-Asia programme is to promote economic prosperity and help reduce poverty in Asia by encouraging a sustainable growth with low environmental impact from industries and consumers, in line with international environmental agreements and processes. After a decade of implementation, the European Commission continues SWITCH-Asia Programme and announced its second phase, SWITCH-Asia II, in 2017.
