What is the 10YFP?

At the Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development in 2012, Heads of State converged around the idea that fundamental changes in our production and consumption patterns are indispendsable to achieving long-term sustainable development.
Moving towards Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) patterns is a far greater task than any one organization, sector or region can hope to achieve.  The realization that a global shift towards SCP would require the committment of diverse actors across the globe spurred Heads of State at Rio+20 to adopt the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns (10YFP).
The 10YFP generates collective impact through multi-stakeholder programmes and partnerships, which develop, replicate and scale up SCP policies and initiatives at all levels.

SDG 12

On September 25th 2015, countries adopted a set of goals to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda. Each goal has specific targets to be achieved over the next 15 years.

Goal 12 of the SDGs calls specifically to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns, and the first target of that goal is the implementation of the 10YFP.   This recognition by the international community of the importance of implementing the cross-cutting framework of the 10YFP provides an unprecendented opportunity to mobilize resources and expertise for comprehensive action.

Governments and other stakeholders measuirng progress towards the fulfillment of the ambitious 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda will be able to benchmark their progress towards SDG 12 based in part on their contributions to the 10YFP.

10YFP & the Clearinghouse

10YFP & the Clearinghouse

At it's core, the 10YFP is a framework for action, and this is the focus of the Global SCP Clearinghouse.
The 10YFP manifests itself in the Global SCP Clearinghouse through its’ six thematic and sectoral programmes: networks of hundreds of organizations bringing collective impact on the ground. The programmes are at the core of the 10YFP, bringing together existing partnerships and initiatives as well as forming new cooperations, projects and other activities to scale up SCP efforts in developed and developing countries.
One way that the programmes help to implement sustainable consumption and production in countries is by linking up with a network of National Focal Points; designated government reprentatives in more than 120 governments across the globe. The full list of 10YFP National Focal Points is availabe here
Each of these programmes has a hub within this platform, where interested members can find out
