The main barriers identified to enabling sustainable tourism development in the region include insufficient access to technical and financial assistance from international donors in marine, coastal and other sensitive environments; insufficient knowledge within industry about sustainable tourism indicators, tools and mechanisms; a lack of government level strategic planning and policy commitment to sustainable tourism.
