In 2018, the forum reviewed progress on Goal 12 of Sustainable consumption and production. This presented the opportunity to:
- Position the One Planet network as an implementation mechanism for Goal 12;
- Launch new initiatives, including the new strategy ‘One Plan for One Planet’;
- Showcase major achievements of the network over the first 5 years;
- Mobilise political support.
The One Planet network had a significant presence at the HLPF, organising and participating in several events, securing high-level political support at the official review of SDG 12 and other events.
In addition, the One Planet network was very active in advance of the forum, providing inputs which were featured in the two pieces of the official documentation of the HLPF:
- Secretary General's report on progress of the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production,
- One UN for One Planet, which looks at how the UN system can apply the recommendations of the Secretary General to address gaps in and strengthen the implementation of SDG 12.
A full report on the One Planet network at the High Level Political Forum illustrated how the objectives of the network’s contribution to the Forum and the review of Goal 12 have been addressed. The report can be found here
