Lena Stig

Scientific officer in Sustainable use of plastic

I am part of Swedish EPA's national plastic coordination, which means that we collect and disseminate knowledge about plastic and microplastic and most important to be a driver for sutainable plastic use together with others. The roadmap with its four impact areas gives a good overview of what we work with to achieve climate and resource-efficient, non-toxic and circular flows without leakage.

As a scientific officer f I have several tasks. I have been part of two government commissions so far. In finding measures to reduce release of microplastics and recently in how to increase material recycling of plastics.

One focus is healthcare and another is innovation. To promote innovation competitions or challenges to tackle many SDG's at the same time.

I have a MSc in Organic Chemistry and prior to my 4 years at Swedish EPA I worked in R&D for more than 12 years, mainly with biochemistry and polymer chemistry in the private sector. For nearly as long I wasworking in the public sector focusing on stimulating both demand and production of non-toxic products. One of the tasks was conducting environmental assessments of products. I was the project manager of the Life+ project PVCfreeBloodBag.
