SBT4buildings: Science-based targets for the building and construction value chain
The SBT4buildings project provides solutions for companies of the building and construction who want to set carbon reduction targets in line with their own ambitions and Science-based Targets initiative (SBTi) requirements, working to decarbonize the entire value chain. The first step currently under implementation is a carbon mapping of the value chain to understand emissions, responsibilities and common language.
The project aims to provide guidance for companies who want to set carbon reduction targets that contribute to the decarbonization of the whole value chain. These to be in line with the SBTi requirements. Through a co-creation process with the companies along the entire value chain, the project facilitates companies’ interactions to share experiences and solutions to develop an inclusive guidance. The guidance will be based on a common vision, framework and language for the building and construction value chain on SBT.
This work will address for example the issues of making buildings more efficient in their operation while also increasing the efficiency of the materials and the construction processes to achieve efficient and low-carbon buildings.
The project will develop through four phases. Each phase will address a series of specific questions and will develop the base for the next steps. The structure and content of each phase will depend on the aspects identified during the previous work. Below the characteristic of the four phases:
I – Mapping the value chain
II – SBT value chain draft guidance
III – Stakeholder engagement and validation
IV - Final guidance and dissemination
