Together with Nigerian partner FLEESD and in collaboration with the Ministry of Water Resources of Nigeria, a framework for Technology-based solutions for sustainable production in agribusiness and youth empowerment is starting to be implemented.

Objectives

The aim is to develop a Swedish-Nigerian collaboration to support a Youth Farmer's Empowerment Scheme which creates jobs for graduates youth, boosts food production for food security, income generation to reduce poverty and to achieve sustainable economic development through the diversification of the economy.

Activities

We are now in the early stages of the project but the main areas of collaboration within this framework will be:
• Online capacity building and knowledge sharing between Nigerian and Swedish young farmers;
• Capacity building to develop inclusive, resilient and profitable agri-business;
• Facilitating partnerships between Nigerian farmers and Swedish businesses including the use of proven technologies to improve processes along the value chain from planning cultivation, to maintenance, harvesting and processing;
• Effective/cost saving application to optimize sales and distribution; Co-development of mobile solutions to improve productivity and income generation.

Impact and Results

An estimated 6,050 graduates and youth will be empowered in a total of 121 sites with targets to generate over 24,000 jobs directly on the farms and about 30,000 indirectly from the smallholder value chains annually by 2018.
