Dar es Salaam Eco Sanaa Village

In January 26 2018, CDEA launched Dar es Salaam Eco Sanaa Village as an investment opportunity that makes the connection between creativity, urban development and tourism. The plan aims at leveraging Dar es Salaam’s creative, heritage and historic assets, to transform it into a creativity city and a tourism destination. The project code-named ‘Dar es Salaam Eco Sanaa Village’ will be built on green building principles.
The objectives of this initiative are: 1. To attract development partners and private investors to invest in Dar es Salaam Eco Sanaa village by December 2022 2. To construct a creative village on 8 acres in Kigamboni municipality using sustainable building and construction principles by December 2022 2. To promote Dar es Salaam as a creative city by December 2022 3. To prmote sustainable tourism through the creative village by by December 2022 2. To carry out research on creative economy and urban development by December 2022 In 2018, CDEA identified an ideal location or the project (2 acres along the Indian Ocean coastline, and the other 6 acres across the main Kigamboni highway), and began negotiations for the purchase or lease to buy the land. CDEA engaged a consultant to solicit funds for purchase, construction and development the Dar es Salaam Eco Sanaa Village in Kigamboni municipality of Dar es Salaam. This progress is still ongoing and we expect results by June 2019. This is a work in progress. We expect to begin implementing the project from July 2019, if partners and investors buy into the project. However, the impact we expect is: 1. Creating awareness on sustainable building and construction in Dar es Salaam, using the village as a model 2. Creating employment for youth and women through the facilities an amphitheater seating for 5,000 people and cinema with seating capacity of 1000 people. The other significant value-added services will include eco-certified hotel cottages, retail shops (fashion/apparel, leather products jewelry from gemstones and gold, recycled glass products and eco-furniture), research lab (architectural, creative industries and cities) a supermarket, a rooftop spa and wellbeing restaurant, recording and production studios, design school and hub, a discotheque, exhibition and conference space, banking halls, ATM booths/Forex bureaus and office space and campsites in the green spaces . The waterfront area will accommodate seafood restaurants, a fish market, sea crafts, beach-themed activities . CDEA is interested in partnering with development partners and investors, to finance the project. The project aims to leverage Dar es Salaam’s creative, heritage and historic assets, to transform it into a creativity city and a tourism destination. The project code-named ‘Dar es Salaam Eco Sanaa Village’ will be built on green building principles with an eco-certified hotel and additional amenities, a creative hub, retail space for lease and recreational activities.
